On December 11 we were
able to hold a global conference
call via SKYPE with our FLL/FTC counterparts in
China and Hong Kong.
The
following teams joined the call.
2 Hong Kong schools (FLL)
Carmel Secondary School
The Chinese Foundation Secondary
School 2 China schools (FTC)
Beijing 2nd Secondary School
Niulanshan Secondary School 3
TechBrick Teams - Maryland, US
FLL 41 Legocy
FLL 7585 Company of Senior
Investigators
FTC 7: Voltage Vipers
Even though we had some technical
problems, the entire experience was
engaging for all. Our FLL teams showed
their robots and ran some missions. One
of our teams did their presentation. The
Chinese teams discussed their work and
the FTC teams ran their bot. We
would encourage all teams to pursue
finding a partner to share with. Here
are some tips from TechBrick and Ice
Yam, the lead engineer of Semia the
China distributor for LEGO Education (
http://www.semia.com/hk/ )
- It was a good experience for US,
China & HK students.
- We tried to do the call with too
many teams. Limit it to one team per
call.
- We had network speed issues
(causes undetermined). However, we
suggest using a hard-wired internet
connection instead of wireless and
only included one school per call.
- Plan the time carefully.
It was acdtuall a bit too late in in
China (9p US ET, Tuesday, 10A Hong
Kong time on Wed). You may
need to plan to do the call on a
weekend.
